Abstract

The small subunit ribosomal proteins can be categorised as: primary binding proteins, which bind directly and independently to 16S rRNA; secondary binding proteins, which display no specific affinity for 16S rRNA, but its assembly is contingent upon the presence of one or more primary binding proteins; and tertiary binding proteins, which require the presence of one or more secondary binding proteins and sometimes other tertiary binding proteins. The small ribosomal subunit protein S19 contains 88-144 amino acid residues. In Escherichia coli, S19 is known to form a complex with S13 that binds strongly to 16S ribosomal RNA. Experimental evidence [PubMed9371771] has revealed that S19 is moderately exposed on the ribosomal surface, and is designated a secondary rRNA binding protein. S19 belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins [PubMed9371771, PubMed2044758] that includes: eubacterial S19; algal and plant chloroplast S19; cyanelle S19; archaebacterial S19; plant mitochondrial S19; and eukaryotic S15 ('rig' protein).

Browse genome assignments for this superfamily. The SUPERFAMILY hidden Markov model library has been used to carry out SCOP domain assignments to all genomes at the superfamily level.

Alignments of sequences to 2 models in this superfamily are available by clicking on the 'Alignments' icon above. PDB sequences less than 40% identical are shown by default, but any other sequence(s) may be aligned. Select PDB sequences, genome sequences, or paste in or upload your own sequences.

Browse and view proteins in genomes which have different domain combinations including a Ribosomal protein S19 domain.

Examine the distribution of domain superfamilies, or families, across the major taxonomic kingdoms or genomes within a kingdom. This gives an immediate impression of how superfamilies, or families, are restricted to certain kingdoms of life.

Explore domain occurrence network where nodes represent genomes and edges are domain architectures (shared between genomes) containing the superfamily of interest.

There are 2 hidden Markov models representing the Ribosomal protein S19 superfamily. Information on how the models are built, and plots showing hydrophobicity, match emmission probabilities and insertion/deletion probabilities can be inspected.
