Abstract

The WD40 motif is found in a multitude of eukaryotic proteins involved in a variety of cellular processes [PubMed11814058, PubMed10322433]. Repeated WD40 motifs act as a site for protein-protein interaction, and proteins containing WD40 repeats are known to serve as platforms for the assembly of protein complexes or mediators of transient interplay among other proteins. In Arabidopsis sp., several WD40-containig proteins act as key regulators of plant-specific developmental events. WD40 repeats usually assume a 7-8 bladed beta-propeller fold, but proteins have been found with 4 to 16 repeated units.

The structures of several WD40 repeat-containing proteins have been determined, including the beta-1 subunit of the signal-transducing G protein heterotrimer, the C-terminal domain of yeast Tup1, the C-terminal domain of Groucho/tle1, the Cdc4 propeller domain, the bovine Arp2/3 complex 41 kDa subunit ARPC1, and actin interacting protein 1.

Browse genome assignments for this superfamily. The SUPERFAMILY hidden Markov model library has been used to carry out SCOP domain assignments to all genomes at the superfamily level.

Alignments of sequences to 35 models in this superfamily are available by clicking on the 'Alignments' icon above. PDB sequences less than 40% identical are shown by default, but any other sequence(s) may be aligned. Select PDB sequences, genome sequences, or paste in or upload your own sequences.

Browse and view proteins in genomes which have different domain combinations including a WD40 repeat-like domain.

Examine the distribution of domain superfamilies, or families, across the major taxonomic kingdoms or genomes within a kingdom. This gives an immediate impression of how superfamilies, or families, are restricted to certain kingdoms of life.

Explore domain occurrence network where nodes represent genomes and edges are domain architectures (shared between genomes) containing the superfamily of interest.

There are 35 hidden Markov models representing the WD40 repeat-like superfamily. Information on how the models are built, and plots showing hydrophobicity, match emmission probabilities and insertion/deletion probabilities can be inspected.
