Representation of a Superfamily Using Multiple Hidden Markov Models

Explanation of how SCOP superfamilies are represented by multiple hidden Markov models in the SUPERFAMILY database.

This diagram shows 2 examples of models in an imaginary sequence space. Each cross represents a sequence of unknown structure, blue crosses are members of the superfamily and the red crosses are not. Each black oval represents a single model, the green outline represents the superfamily as the union of multiple models, which is the way in which they are treated by SUPERFAMILY.
