Abstract

This family includes inhibitors of proteinases and amylases, such as trypsin inhibitors [PubMed12198301], carboxypeptidase A inhibitors [PubMed12557184], and alpha-amylase inhibitors (AAI) [PubMed11298757]. The proteins display a knottins-like (small inhibitors, toxins, lectins) disulphide-bound fold, containing a beta-hairpin with two adjacent disulphides.

More information about this protein can be found at Protein of the Month: alpha-Amylase.
